Dubai: Sharjah and India are strengthening their trade ties and developing investment opportunities, according to a statement issued on Monday by the Expo Centre Sharjah.

Anurag Bhushan, Indian Consul General in Dubai and P.K. Ashok Babu, Deputy Consul General, met with Saif Mohammad Al Midfa, chief executive officer of the Expo Centre Sharjah, to whom they presented proposals aimed at developing business and cultural relations between Sharjah and India.

“Sharjah and the UAE have had strong trade and cultural ties with India for centuries. Expo Centre Sharjah too has tie-ups with several Indian associations and trade entities that facilitate Indian participation in our shows. We are happy to work with Indian authorities and trade representatives to further boost these ties,” said Al Midfa in a statement.

The Indian team sought to boost Indian participation at exhibitions organised by Expo Centre Sharjah, such as the Halal Middle East Exhibition & Congress. They also said that they are keen to launch a trade show wherein Indian manufacturers, traders, exporters and importers can promote their products to the Arab, South Asian and other nationalities in the region.

Expo Centre Sharjah, along with the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, have helped develop ties between India and the UAE.

The India Trade and Exhibition Centre (ITEC), meanwhile, is responsible for promoting trade and investment between India and regional countries.
