Dubai: An Asiana Airlines plane that crashed as it landed at San Francisco International Airport on Sunday resulted in delays and diversions to two Emirates Airline flights to and from San Francisco.

Flight EK 225, which was due to arrive in San Francisco at 1:10pm local time, was diverted to Seattle. The flight landed in San Francisco at 5.05pm local time.

Meanwhile, flight EK 226 that was meant to depart San Francisco at 4:45 local time was delayed. The plane landed in Seattle at 10.56pm local time and left again to Dubai at 00.22am local time.

“Emirates apologises for the delay caused to its passengers but the safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority and will not be compromised,” Emirates said in a statement.

San Francisco International Airport was shut down as a result of the crash. Asiana Airlines Boeing 777 with 307 people on board crashed and burst into flames as it landed at San Francisco International Airport after a flight from Seoul, killing two people and injuring more than 180.
