Riyadh:  Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al Faisal has expressed hope that the kingdom and China would develop their relations to the highest possible level.

Speaking during a meeting with the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in Beijing, the Saudi minister said that the kingdom would seek to expand its cooperation with China in various economic fields including energy and investment.

He lauded China's position on Middle East issues, and said that Saudi Arabia would increase coordination with China on international and regional affairs.

The Saudi minister said that both nations enjoy many common ideas in international relations.

The Saudi minister is in China to attend the two-day fourth Ministerial Meeting of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum which began yesterday in north China's port city of Tianjin. Foreign ministers and officials from China and 22 other Arab countries are scheduled to attend the meeting which ends today.

Meanwhile, Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang highlighted the importance of energy cooperation between China and Saudi Arabia during a meeting with Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ali Ebrahim Al Nuaimi in Beijing recently.

"It conforms to the fundamental interests of the two states to progress all-round cooperation in energy resource exploration, technology service, business and policy exchange," Li told Al Nuaimi.

Li briefed Al Nuaimi on China's energy policy which includes principles such as making energy-saving a priority, and developing in a diversified and environmentally friendly way.
