To lead a company, an entrepreneur needs more than just good role models from his or her immediate family, award-winning entrepreneur Laura Frati Gucci said yesterday.

"Being a Gucci has certain advantages, but when it comes down to running your own business, it's not your name that pays your bills at the end of the day it's hard work and perseverance," Gucci said at 'Entrepreneurs in Dubai'.

In 1987, Laura Frati Gucci married into the family behind the famous fashion house when she became the wife of Guccio Gucci, the grand-nephew of the brand's founder.

She continued to work for her family business the high-quality fabric producer Arpel Spa-Frati Group. In her career, which spans 18 years, she has set up plants in Tunisia, Morocco, Poland, Germany and the United States.

Gucci holds 'The Leading Women In The World Award' the premier global honour for the world's female business leaders."You need to build on your leadership ability through your connections."

She is in the running for the presidency of an Italian association that represents women entrepreneurs and businesswomen. Gucci is president of Pirene, a top Italian event management, communications and PR company.

Eckart Wintzen, founder of the Holland based Bureau for Systems Development, also addressed participants.
