Dubai: While prices of individual construction materials in Dubai varied during the second quarter of the year compared to the same period a year ago, overall prices were steady, according to a Dubai Statistic Centre (DSC) report released on Monday.

The report showed that prices of gypsum fell by 2.14 per cent year-on-year but grew by 3.15 per cent compared to the first quarter of 2014.

Meanwhile, prices of ordinary Portland cement dropped by 2.96 per cent year-on-year, while those of white cement were up by 0.21 per cent and lime by 1.35 per cent. Salt-resistant cement prices were stable compared to the second quarter of last year.

In the gravel and sand category, prices of crushed Conakry gravel (16/3 inches) posting largest increase in the category, up 4.6 per cent year-on-year. However, prices of white sand were down 0.44 per cent, and those of red sand remained stable.

Meanwhile prices of bricks were up, with the largest increases posted by solid cement bricks (4cm, 6cm and 8cm), which rose 6.02 per cent, 8.48 per cent and 7.19 per cent, respectively.

Similarly, the index in the concrete category moved up. Prices of salt resistant precast concrete grew by 2.76 per cent, while those of ordinary Portland precast concrete rose 2.44 per cent.

Prices of Iron were down in the second quarter of the year. However, prices of floor iron mesh (7mm) were marginally up by 0.77 per cent.
