Dubai: Microsoft is back at Gitex with its new enterprise resource planning (ERP) software targeting 20 per cent market share in three years.

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009, is a feature-heavy, adaptable business management solution that can help organisations streamline processes, reduce operational costs and drive informed decision-making.

Henk Bruinekreeft, regional director of Microsoft Business Solutions, Middle East and Africa, said the software "helps fuel productivity by automating business-critical operations".

The company will continue to make investments in research and developments to bring new products that are localised to the market, according to Ian Corcoran, senior director, business solutions, Microsoft Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

In near future, business software from Microsoft will integrate graphics from their Xbox technology to bring a more creative interface to the customers.

Of the $60 billion (Dh220 billion) turnover of the company worldwide, the business solutions arm generates $1 billion.

The company saw 26 per cent growth in their business solutions software sales in the second quarter of this year, compared to that of the year before. The business solutions arm is among the top five receivers of research and development funds as the company sees it as an important growth platform.

Of the total ERP market revenues of $280 million, the company had a share of $18 million in 2007.

Microsoft has been growing at 40 per cent rate - more than double the rate of the average market growth - occupying around 10 per cent of the Middle East and North Africa's enterprise solutions market.

This year the company expects growth of 30 per cent with plans to increase that three times in three years.

"We had 200,000 new customers in one year, which is twice what any competitor may be able to obtain," said Tamer Elhamy, business solutions manager, Gulf, Microsoft.
