Dubai: Lootah Technical Centre (LTC), a competency based education and training centre and part of the S.S. Lootah Group, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Clyde Space Ltd, a spacecraft system engineering and nano-satellite specialist based in Glasgow, Scotland.

Yousuf Saeed Lootah, Deputy CEO of LTC and Ritchie Logan, Business Development Manager of Clyde Space, signed the agreement.

The MoU aims to explore the development of ‘Cubesat' projects for nano/micro satellite space programmes to serve the needs of the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region. Clyde Space, a leading supplier of spacecraft systems for small satellite missions, will collaborate with LTC to offer education and training in building and integrating CubeSat and its sub-systems. The future scope of the MoU will expand to develop CubeSat business in the region in addition to providing consultancy and advisory services. Cubesats are miniature satellites usually only 10 centimetres tall and wide and used extensively in space research.

"Our partnership with Clyde Space is in line with our unique business model where education and industry merge. We are happy to collaborate towards a sustainable innovative approach in the development of human capital in the strategic sector of space technology, in line with the vision of our leadership. Through this, we aim to serve the requirements of the satellite industry in the region," said Lootah.

"We are very excited to have secured this MoU. Clyde Space recognises the huge potential for space and satellite technology in the Mena region — with particular focus on our core competency of CubeSat systems and subsystems," Logan said.
