Dubai: Japanese documents solutions provider Kyocera Mita said it hopes to raise UAE sales by 32.5 per cent to Dh53 million this year, up from last year's Dh40 million.

"Our Middle East sales are expected to reach Dh146.30 million by the end of the current fiscal year, up from last year's Dh100.9 million," said Sho Taniguichi, Kyocera's general manager for international sales.

"The UAE and the Middle East are very strong markets for us. Our products enjoy a leading share here. Globally, our copier sales have touched about 1.2 billion euros."

Rising turnover

Kyocera, which derives its name from Kyoto and Ceramics, was founded as Kyoto Ceramics in 1959 with capital of three million yen and 28 staff members, specialising in fine ceramics. The company's facilities include a headquarters and factory. The group, with a turnover of eight billion euros, employs more than 63,000 employees spread across 108 companies. Hakam Abu Risheh, general manager of Gulf Commercial Group, Kyocera's local distributor, said, "We have a 21 per cent market share in the UAE."

Quoting International Data Corporation's statistics, he claimed, "In 2006, Kyocera maintained No. 1 position in multi-functional copiers. "Generally, Kyocera is the No 2 copier provider in the UAE."

He added that Kyocera's total cost of ownership, a measurement that determines the longevity and maintenance cost of copiers, is much lower as its maintenance is much lower while productivity is nearly three times that of most copiers in the market.

The company held its regional distributors' meeting on Saturday in Dubai in which representatives from all the 14 Middle Eastern countries participated.

Kyocera Mita Corporation is part of Kyocera Corporation, a Fortune 500 company with exposure in telecom, high technology manufacturing, fine ceramics and office equipment.
