Tokyo: Honda Motor Co. has added another 437,000 vehicles to an existing global recall for faulty air bags, the latest quality problem to hit a Japanese automaker.

The company will replace the driver's side air bag inflator on the cars because they can deploy with too much pressure, causing the inflator to rupture and injure or kill the driver.

Honda, Japan's No. 2 automaker, said on Wednesday it was adding 17,000 cars in Japan and elsewhere to the recall that was first announced in November 2008.

In the UAE, customers of Honda’s faulty airbags in Accord, Civic, Odyssey and CR-V will not be affected, company officials told Gulf News.

The Japanese automaker has recalled some 437,700 cars internationally, including 4,000 in Japan, over a problem that can lead its airbags to deploy too much pressure when inflated, which could cause injury, reports said today.

The models affected by the recall are the 2001 and 2002 models of the Accord, Civic, Odyssey, Pilot, CL, CR-V and 2002 Acura TL vehicles.
