Beijing :  The UAE pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai Expo reflects the UAE's interest in furthering relations with China, said Vice-Mayor of the Chinese city of Nantong, Shen Zhengxin.

The UAE pavilion, which is organised and run by the UAE's National Media Council, serves as a dazzling reflection of the UAE's authentic traditions and overall development under the leadership of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, according to Zhengxin in a statement to WAM.

The UAE pavilion takes visitors on a virtual journey helping them to understand the spirit of the UAE people who have created life in the desert and have learned from their forefathers how to create shade, to escape heat, and to survive in a harsh environment. Along the path, flower beds and trees are everywhere, creating a scene of fantasy completely alien to the dunes.

Zhengxin described the massive pavilion at the world's largest exhibition as a tool for building bridges of communication and cooperation, where millions of visitors from China and other countries throng the sand dune-like structure.

With a population of 7.6 million people, Nantong, which hosts one of China's biggest industrial zones is also one of the fastest growing Chinese cities.

Trade between Nantong and the Gulf countries reached $11 billion (Dh40.4 billion) last year.
