Dubai: Ahmad Humaid Al Tayer (60), the newly appointed governor of Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) brings a large pool of knowledge and expertise to the region's largest financial hub.
His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, has issued a decree appointing Al Tayer as governor of DIFC. DIFC is the largest financial centre in the Middle East set up five years ago to attract a large pool of capital to the region.
The decree is effective from date of issuance and is to be published in the official gazette.
Ahmad Humaid Al Tayer is holding a bachelors degree from College of Economics and Political Sciences, University of Cairo. He holds a number of positions including chairman of Emirates NBD, Commercial Bank of Dubai, vice chairman of Dubai Aluminium Company, chairman of Board of Trustees of Emirates Nationals Development Program and chairman of Emirates Institute for Banking & Financial Studies. He was Minister of Communications in the Sixth Cabinet, a position he held until 2004.
