Djibouti/Dubai: As part of its development strategy under the management of Economic Zones World, Djibouti Free Zone (DFZ) has launched work on the construction of a second office building to meet rising demand from the East African region's business community.

The start of construction was formally marked with a ground-breaking ceremony within the DFZ complex next to Port Djibouti. It was attended by Aden Ahmad Douale, chairman of the Djibouti Port and Free Zones Authority; Ali Dawood, senior vice-president of the Emerging Business Unit at Economic Zones World, and a number of senior officials.

The proposed multipurpose development, with a built up area of 2,568 square metres, is designed to accommodate 68 new office units. The services and amenities will include a business centre, convenience store, prayer room, ATM facilities as well as an adjoining food court.

Djibouti Free Zone, managed by Economic Zones World, is the most important business hub in the East African region.

Economic Zones World is the global developer and operator of economic zones, technology, logistics and industrial parks under the Dubai World Group.

As managing partner and holistic advisory entity, Economic Zones World, is chiefly responsible for cultivating and nurturing the optimum business conditions which exist within DFZ.

"This marks another prominent step in the evolution of Djibouti Free Zone. This development will double office capacity at DFZ, as well as provide additional amenities," Dawood said.

"As part of our strategic goal to promote and develop world-class free zones, Economic Zones World has transferred its unsurpassed business knowledge to DFZ, giving it an unbeatable competitive edge over the vast majority of free zones located on the African mainland. We wish DFZ even greater success in its endeavour."

DFZ is currently home to over 100 leading regional and global companies including BMMI, SDV Bollore, and Seven Seas, among others.

Leading platform

It has emerged as one of Africa's leading trading and distribution platforms by leveraging its geographical and structural strengths to drive economic growth.

Economic Zones World is also counsellor to the Djibouti Ports & Free Zones Authority (DPFZA) concerning all project activities and licence issues.

DPFZA is the sole authority in charge of the administration and the control of all the free zones in Djibouti.

DFZ offers a unique Jafza-inspired business environment and is located close to global marine terminal operator, DP World's Djibouti and Doraleh terminals.

Additionally, Djibouti customs procedures are also managed and run by Dubai Customs.

Dubai World has been a major partner in the development of the country's infrastructure, operating and managing a number of projects that have significantly contributed to Djibouti socio-economic growth.
