Abu Dhabi: The Department of Economic Development aims to reduce the unemployment rate in Abu Dhabi to less than 5 per cent by 2030, Rashid Ali Al Za'abi, DED executive director of Planning and Statistics said, by providing job opportunities for UAE jobseekers.

"We aim to reduce the unemployment rate in the emirate of Abu Dhabi to less than 5 per cent by 2030," said Al Za'abi.

A study conducted by DED showed that there are 12,112 jobseekers in the Western region and Al Ain (3,078 males and 9,034 females).

According to the study, 41 per cent of the jobseekers are graduates of high school and above, 37 per cent are high school graduates and 21 per cent are holders of diplomas and above.

Opportunities

The study shows that the government sector accounts for the largest portion of the Emirati labour force, 87.4 per cent, but job opportunities in the public sector do not exceed 0.4 per cent. The private sector provides 97.8 per cent of the jobs, yet the national labour force in this sector is only 6.1 per cent, said Al Za'abi.

He added that the aim of the study was to stimulate economic development in remote areas of Abu Dhabi and create job opportunities for Emiratis in their areas.

He said that DED has cooperated in this study with the Abu Dhabi Tawteen Council (ADTC), the Western Region Development Council, the Eastern Region Development Committee, Al Ain Municipality and the Family Development Foundation.
