Dubai: The UAE’s Ministry of Economy said it is looking at ways to boost trade ties with Moldova especially in sectors of agriculture and food products.

The Ministry is also discussing ways to boost cooperation in air transport and opening of direct flights between the UAE and Moldova, it said in a statement.

The discussion was had when a delegation from the UAE’s Ministry of Economy met with representatives from Moldova to discuss areas of joint cooperation, how to boost ties, and how to capitalise on trade opportunities between the two countries.

The meeting was with Moldova’s Minister of State for Agriculture, Regional Development, and Environment.

The Moldovan minister reviewed investment opportunities in agricultural crops, livestock, and food products in light of development projects being implemented in Moldova. The two parties also discussed ways to boost investments in that area.

Both sides said opening up flights would help support efforts to boost trade, investment, and tourism between the two countries.

Abdullah Al Saleh, undersecretary for foreign affairs at the Ministry of Economy, said that relations with Moldova have strong potential for growth.

Non-oil trade between the UAE and Moldova topped $8.2 million (Dh30.1 million) in 2016, according to figures from the Ministry of Economy.
