Dubai: The UAE’s Higher Committee for Hosting the 2020 World Expo in Dubai held a meeting on Monday, chaired by Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of the Higher Committee.

The committee’s discussions focused on reviewing preparations for the International Exhibitions Bureau delegation that will be visiting the UAE to assess the country’s feasibility to host the World Expo 2020. The delegation will include diplomats from voting nations of the BIE who will make their final decision in November this year.

The committee underlined the importance of the visit as a decisive stage in the country’s bid. Supported by key facts and information included in the UAE’s official Bid Dossier submitted to the BIE last December, results of the visits will help BIE member countries to form their opinions and decide among the five contesting cities, including Dubai.

The support from the UAE community was highlighted at the meeting and the committee expressed its gratitude to both the public and private sector for their efforts. Praising the growing contributions from the online community, particularly from the UAE youth, the committee underscored the importance of social media in demonstrating support not only within the UAE but also globally.

The meeting was attended by Mohammad Ebrahim Al Shaibani, Director-General of His Highness the Ruler’s Court of Dubai, who serves as Deputy Chairman, Reem Al Hashemi, UAE Minister of State and the Committee’s Managing Director, Mattar Mohammad Al Tayer, Chairman of the Roads and Transport Authority, Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing and CEO of Dubai World Trade Centre, and Major General Khamis Mutar Al Muzainah, Deputy Commander General of Dubai Police.
