DUBAI: Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, met Australian Treasurer Joe Hockey and the accompanying delegation on his recent visit to the UAE.

The meeting, which took place at the Ministry of Finance’s premises in Dubai, was held to discuss bilateral relationships and ways to strengthen ties, along with economic and trade indicators between the UAE and Australia.

During the meeting, the two parties reviewed the global issues addressed at this year’s G20 Leader’s Summit, hosted by Australia. The agenda included promoting economic growth through improved trading results, creating job opportunities and joint global cooperation to enhance the economy’s flexibility.

The two countries also exchanged views on topics such as tourism and international flights. The number of flights between the UAE and Australia have increased from 50 to 140 per week, and plans are in place to increase this number to 200 per week over the next 12 months.

Al Tayer stressed the UAE investment sectors’ commitment to expand its trade and investment presence across the Australian market.
