Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister and of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, yesterday inspected the Deira Wharf, fully accomplished by the Dubai Municipality at a cost of Dh250 million, at the entrance to Dubai Creek.

Shaikh Mohammad stopped at the wharf, observing the movement of arriving and departing boats loaded with cargo and commercial goods.

Accompanied by Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and CEO of Emirates airline and Group, Shaikh Mohammad was briefed on the harbour facilities and services being provided to large- and medium-sized boats and other facilities for some government departments.

Safety briefing

Shaikh Mohammad has called for the expansion of the wharf in the near future so that it becomes nearer to the Hamriya port in Deira.

While at the wharf, he was briefed about the safety features built into the facilities for users of the quay, deeming it “vital for the Dubai Creek for receiving tens of commercial ships and contributing to the revitalisation of the local trade and re-export, as well as raise the rate of economic growth in our country.”

Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, expressed his satisfaction with Shaikh Mohammad’s inspection of Deira Wharf, which is equipped with the latest equipment and supplies to woo a number of commercial boats, including larger boats, which had been unable to dock before the expansion of the quay.

“The port has been expanded for loading, unloading and storing. This definitely increases the capacity of the port to handle the larger commercial boats to activate the trade in Dubai in particular and in the UAE in general,” Lootah said.

Shaikh Mohammad was also escorted by Khalifa Saeed Suleiman, Director- General of the Department of Protocol and Hospitality in Dubai.
