Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Economy has launched a series of measures in coordination with the local departments to ensure quality in the UAE market.
Mohammad Ahmad Bin Abdul Aziz Al Shehi, Director-General of the Ministry of Economy, said the ministry is keen to coordinate with the relevant local departments and regulatory authorities to prevent attempts to sell counterfeit goods and raise prices.
"The ministry will intensify inspection tours on a daily basis in order to promote stability and prevent attempts to raise prices," he posted on his Twitter account. "The ministry will not tolerate any attempts to manipulate prices or sale of counterfeit goods."
There are now more than 400 inspectors who cooperate with the Ministry of Economy to strengthen control on the markets. Consumers can report violations to the ministry's call centre on 600522225 from 7.30am to 10.30pm, he posted.
Al Shehi said the ministry is in the process of training its staff. The number of inspections by the ministry increased from 24,183 in 2010 to 24,835 in 2011.
