Dubai: Low wages paid to skilled workers can result in a workforce lacking in innovation, said Dr Tarek Coury, senior researcher and lecturer at the Dubai School of Government at a recent seminar organised by The Economic Policy and Research Centre, an arm of the Dubai Economic Council.

Dr Coury presented his research with insights into a range of issues, including the gains associated with the country's ability to draw from large pools of workers in nearby economies at a very low cost, the effect of the sponsorship system on per capita productivity, and the positive and negative aspects associated with the development paths that are often fostered by economies rich in natural resources.
