Dubai: The consul general of Kenya met with Expo Centre Sharjah’s chief executive in a bid to boost trade with the UAE, according to a statement on Sunday.
Kariuki Mugwe, Kenya’s consul general, discussed strengthening trade ties and explored opportunities of cooperation with Saif Al Midfa, Expo Centre Sharjah’s CEO.
“Kenya is a strong trade partner of the UAE. Together we can assist the business communities from the both countries to take advantage of trade and investment opportunities,” said Al Midfa.
Bilateral trade between Kenya, which is considered as East Africa’s regional trade and finance hub, reached around $1 billion (Dh3.67 billion) in 2012.
The UAE’s private sector has invested in Kenya’s aviation, mining, education, renewable energy, oil and gas, and manufacturing sectors.
Kenya, on the other hand, are active in the region’s halal market.
“The Kenyan halal industry is looking at spreading its wings to source as well as market their own products,” Al Midfa said.
Expo Centre Sharjah will hold the third OIC Halal Middle East Exhibition & Congress is between December 8 and 10.
