Abu Dhabi: The Industrial Production Index (IPI) increased by 37.6 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2015 compared with the same quarter in 2014, according to the latest data from the Statistics Centre — Abu Dhabi (SCAD).

Compared to the third quarter of 2015, the index rose 39.3 per cent in Q4 2015, while in the full year 2015, the index recorded an eight per cent growth compared with 2014.

The increase during the last quarter of 2015 resulted from a rise in the category of ‘Manufacture of machinery and equipment’ that rose by 688 per cent on the back of higher demand for some products in Q4 that stopped in previous quarters.

The increased demand contributed 8.3 per cent of the total increase in the industrial producer quantities.

The category of ‘Manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products’ contributed 93.4 per cent of the total increase of the IPI due to higher production rates of 109 per cent.

In Q4 2015, 11 activities recorded a decrease in the IPI including ‘Repair and installation of machinery and equipment’ category for which quantities dropped by 80 per cent.
