There were increases in other expenditure groups such as services which rose 0.34 per cent, transportation 0.12 per cent, furniture 0.09 per cent, medical care 0.07 per cent, textiles, clothing and footwear 0.07 per cent and education 3.77 per cent, according to the report.

Inflation

The CPI fluctuated to a great extent in Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain by 16 per cent, 22 per cent and 12 per cent respectively.

Mohammad Amerah, adviser at the Ajman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, told Gulf News that the drop of inflation figures is a good indicator that the UAE government is adopting appropriate measures to control inflationary pressures.

"These indicators are positive signs that the government is on the right track and that it gives inflation due concern to keep it at certain levels in order not to affect the local economy and the purchase power of the consumers," said Amerah.
