Dubai: The inflation rate in consumer prices for the first seven months of the year grew by 2.8 per cent compared with the same period in 2013, according to the Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi (SCAD) on Sunday.

The consumer price index (CPI) increased to 127.1 points during the first seven months of 2014, up from 123.7 points during the same period of 2013.

The housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels’ group accounted for the largest rise in the index during the first seven months of 2014 compared with the same period last year, contributing 38.4 per cent to the change. This contribution resulted from an increase of 2.9 per cent in the prices of this group.

In July, the CPI increased by 3.2 per cent compared with the corresponding time last year, to 128.7 points from 124.7 points in July 2013, SCAD said. However, the CPI decreased by 0.1 per cent in July 2014 compared with June.

The rise in overall consumer prices has led to an increase of 2.1 per cent in consumer prices for households of the bottom welfare quintile, pushed up consumer prices for citizen households by 3 per cent, and by 2.7 per cent for non-citizen households and 2.2 per cent for share households.
