Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi’s consumer price inflation for the first five months of 2014 stood at 2.5 per cent, compared with the same period of 2013. The consumer price index was 2.8 per cent in May 2014, compared with the same period of 2013 and 0.2 per cent compared with April 2014.

The rise in consumer prices for the year so far compared with the same period in 2013 shows consumer prices for citizen households rose by 2.7 per cent and 2.4 per cent for non-citizen households.

In Abu Dhabi region, Al Ain and the Al Gharbia region, prices rose by 2.5 per cent.

The “Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels” group accounted for the largest rise in the index during 2014, contributing 33.4 per cent to the change compared with the same period of 2013.

The second highest contributor to the overall increase in the CPI over the first five months of 2014 was the “Food and beverages” group, which accounted for 17.5 of the overall increase. Prices of this group increased by 2.5 per cent compared with the same period of 2013.
