Abu Dhabi: Aramex, the Dubai-listed logistics firm, announced on Thursday that it plans to sell its Sydney-based MailCall Couriers to Australia’s StarTrack Courier.

Aramex and Australia Post will also form a joint venture targeting the global e-commerce market, with a particular focus on Asia.

This joint venture intends to acquire Australia Post’s StarTrack International global e-commerce postal solutions business, and build on the service capability of such business.

“This alliance with Aramex will help us grow the Australian e-commerce market, capturing more inbound e-commerce parcel volumes, and will provide a platform for outbound growth, particularly for Australian small businesses,” said Ahmad Fahour, managing director and group chief executive officer of Australia Post.

In January this year, Aramex announced it has acquired New Zealand-based Fastway Limited (Fastway Couriers). The deal, which marked Aramex’s second acquisition in the Asia-Pacific region, involved a 100 per cent buyout of the company’s business in New Zealand and Australia for roughly Dh293.6 million.

Aramex reported Dh96.9 million in net profit for the first quarter of 2016, marking a 12 per cent increase over the Dh86.6 million recorded in the same quarter of 2015. The company attributed the performance to growth across all geographies.
