Dubai:Toyota car owners in the UAE will not have to make a trip to the local showrooms after Toyota Motors announced a global recall of more than two million vehicles, the local dealer company confirmed.

“We are not affected by this recall,” a spokesperson for local dealership Al-Futtaim Motors said in an email to Gulf News.

Toyota Motors announced a recall of 2.77 million cars globally to problems with the steering mechanism and the hybrid system water pump — its second multi-million car recall in two months, according to a Reuters report.

Last month, over 65,000 units, including the popular Camry and Corolla, sold in the UAE between February 2006 and May 2010, had to make it back to the local showrooms to check on a possible defect with the power window switch.

In October, Toyota said it was pulling back more than 7.4 million vehicles worldwide to fix faulty power window switches, the industry’s biggest single recall since Ford Motor Co took 8 million vehicles off the road in 1996.
