Abu Dhabi: The dealer for Nissan-Renault Alliance for the emirate of Abu Dhabi — Al Masaood Automobiles — last week announced the launch of gasoline-driven models Nissan “Sentra”, a premium compact sedan and an all-new “Nissan Pathfinder” SUV to capitalise on a booming local car market which has seen an upsurge in sales following a robust economic growth and high oil prices.

“Nissan Sentra has a price ranging from Dh57,000 to Dh75,000, ex-showroom, while the Pathfinder’s price across four variants ranges from Dh119,000 to Dh170,000,” Irfan Tansel, chief executive of Al Masaood Automobiles told a news conference.

He said the Pathfinder comes with a 3.5-litre DOHC V6 engine, describing the vehicle as having a “modern balance of off-road capabilities with on-road refinement.”

Al Masaood said it plans to sell 1,000 units of Sentra, which comes in two engine types — the 1.6 litre and the 1.8 litre across six variants, besides 600 units of the Pathfinder through March 2014.

While the Sentra is being sourced from Thailand, the Pathfinder will be imported from Nissan’s US manufacturing facility.

Tansel said the UAE car sales grew 30 per cent year-on-year in the year to March 2013, with the country’s total industry volume seen at 350,000 cars through March 2014.
