Dubai: Ford is once again the main automotive partner for Gitex Technology Week 2012 showcasing the latest Driver Assist Technologies promising its clients more advanced version of Ford’s vehicle safety features.

The US auto manufacturer is demonstrating a biometric seat at the Gitex show that is using gathered data to build a driver’s behaviour model. The experimental system consists of early stage development technology as part of Ford’s ongoing research into driver wellness and stress levels, and monitors driver wellbeing by monitoring temperature levels, heart rate, respiration and other key indicators of stress.

Moreover, visitors to Ford’s stand will be immersed in interactive technology to convey the latest Ford Driver Assist Technologies, with Ford’s Technology Trailer showcasing Arabic navigation for MyFord Touch on-site, plus interactive information displays.

Gathering data

Saeed Barbat, Ford Motor Company’s Executive Technical Leader for Safety, Research and Advanced Engineering, told Gulf News: “Ford has put Driver Assist Technologies in research to come up with a more safety Ford Vehicle.”

“With such a technology drivers can test a number of different sensors and gather data on how they respond to a variety of inputs for a driver behaviour model,” he explained.

“If these inputs show that the driver is stressed or has a high heart rate or respiration indicator is not good, the car automatically gives him instruction to pull over.”

Barbat added that biometric or health information of the driver can help the company better tailor the experience when behind the wheel.

2012 marks Ford’s fifth consecutive year as official car of the region’s premier technology show.

In his first visit to the Middle East and the Gulf region, Barbat said: “I am impressed with the size and the management of such an extravagant technical exhibition as well as with number of visitors, expert and businesses visiting Gitex. It is an ideal platform for Ford to demonstrate its commitment to developing solutions as well as to highlight our latest development in this area.”
