Dubai: Want to become the proud owner of the most expensive domain names in the history? Then you need to shell out €15 million.
John Gemio, Spanish owner of the domain names — luxurycars.ae and luxuriouscars.ae, said the online auction is now open and eyes investors from the Arab countries, especially the UAE.
Both domains are registered with Instra Corporation, which provides world leading registration services of domain names and convergence technologies.
“They are the best domains related to luxury cars. In the UAE [especially in some cities such as Dubai or Abu-Dhabi], there is an important car culture and the rich spent millions of dollars for buying the most fastest, biggest or exclusive cars. Some brands like Bugatti, Bentley.... are usual in these cities. Apart for the car itself, all the other cars-related things are important for the people in UAE,” he said.
For instance, Gemio said that $14 million were paid for a car plate in the UAE some years ago.
“One of our objectives is to become the most expensive domains in the history, for this reason the initial price is high,” he said.
Since the online auction process is too time consuming, he said “we may extend the auction at least until the end of August and it will be mentioned on the website www.xandomain.com”.
