Patna: A man in Bihar was blinded when acid was injected into his eyes after he fell in love with his employer’s wife and eloped with her.

The victim who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital was employed as driver.

The incident took place in Begusarai district, some 140km east of Patna, on Friday evening.

The police have arrested one person in this regard while raids are on to nab the other accused persons.

As per reports, Gautam Kumar Chaudhary who was employed as tractor driver fell in love with his employer Dayaram Singh’s wife and last week he finally eloped with the woman, a mother of two children. Subsequently, Singh registered a case with the local police which finally brought back his wife after 10 days.

On the fateful evening, the woman’s family members called up the driver saying she wanted to live with him and he should come to take her to his house.

The unsuspecting driver drove in a car to take his “love” with him but was abducted midway by a group of 20-25 villagers who took him to a secluded place where he was mercilessly thrashed for daring to elope with the woman.

Even as he begged for mercy, one of the attackers injected acid into both his eyes, leaving him writhing in acute pain.

After committing the crime, the attackers threw him out along a roadside ditch and fled, the victim told the police.

According to the victim, hearing his cries, some local villagers informed his family who admitted him to a local hospital. Doctors said he has lost vision in both eyes as acid has burnt his corneas.

“The incident is the outcome of purely a love affair in which a woman had eloped with the victim and the police had recovered her later and handed to her husband. We have arrested one person so far,” the local deputy superintendent of police B.K. Singh told the media on Sunday.

A similar incident had taken place in September last year when a woman was lynched while her boyfriend was blinded for allegedly falling in love.

The spine-chilling incident took place at Mathura village under Narpatganj block in Araria district, more than 300km east of Patna. In that case too, both the youth and the woman were married to others and both had children but their love affairs continued, which earned the wrath of villagers.
