Dubai: A city-wide scavenger hunt has been launched to celebrate the life and legacy of Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE's Founding Father, giving residents a chance to win exciting prizes, including a volunteering opportunity overseas.

Dubai Cares and Dubai Culture and Arts Authority on Monday announced the Dubai Cares Scavenger Hunt for 15 hidden "light bulbs" spread across the city to celebrate the Year of Zayed 2018.

Each light bulb captures the idea that "Knowledge is a light that never fades." They are spread in 15 locations in old and new Dubai.

To take part in the hunt, participants must download the Dubai Cares app to locate the structures. They will be able to access 15 different challenges and try to solve the question with three hints.

You can download the app here for iOS and here for Android devices.

Once the challenge has been answered, participants will have to scan the QR code through the app and they will be rewarded with one point and will move forward to the next challenge.

'Scavenger hunt' launched in Dubai

The first participant to knock out all the challenges and complete the hunt will win an opportunity to volunteer abroad with Dubai Cares, get one annual day pass for Dubai Parks and Resorts plus a two-night stay for two at the Versace Hotel.

The second placer will get a chance to participate in the Volunteer Emirates 2018, an annual day pass at Dubai Parks and Resorts and a Dh3,000 Dubai Mall voucher.

Other prizes await the remaining winners.

The hunt will run from January 8 to 29.

Tariq Al Gurg, CEO of Dubai Cares, said the initiative goes beyond the traditional concept of a scavenger hunt.

"This (initiative) promotes the work of locally based artists, provides an opportunity to explore and learn more about Dubai, offers members of the community a chance to take part in an exciting adventure as well as revisit common values that distinguish us," Al Gurg said.
