Patna: In a shocking development, a doctor in Bihar has been accused of extracting blood from the body of a health staff with a syringe as a punishment for insubordination, forcing the authorities to hurriedly order an investigation into the entire incident. The only crime of the health worker was that he had indulged in altercation with his boss.
The victim Anil Kumar, a clerk posted at a primary health centre at Chhauradano in east Champaran district, told the police that the local medical officer Dr Dayasagar Arya locked him in one of the hospital rooms and got his blood extracted with the help of another doctor with a syringe in the weekend shortly after he had a minor altercation. He said this all was done to teach him a lesson.
Angry health workers staged a sit-in in the hospital premises yesterday and boycotted medical works, seeking action against the accused doctor. They accused the doctor of torturing the health staffs in way or another.
The agitated health workers relented and returned to duty only the local civil surgeon Dr Sarita Singh intervened in the matter and assured to initiate severe action against the culprit.
The accused doctor though denied all these charges stating that some vested interests were conspiring to defame him. “I had a heated exchange of words with the staff after which I slapped him but did not take out blood,” the accused doctor defended before the media on Wednesday. The health department has ordered an inquiry into the incident to bring out the truth.
Earlier in October last year, a 18-year-old college student had accused a leading surgeon from Patna of molesting her at the operation theatre when she had gone for her medical check-up. She had alleged tat the doctor also blackmailed her for a fortnight by making a MMS clip of the incident.
