Saeed’s house reopens

1996 - Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance and Industry, reopened the house of the late Shaikh Saeed Bin Maktoum. Shaikh Hamdan stressed the importance of “preserving tradition through the renovation of old buildings across the country”. The opening of the house marks the UAE’s Silver Jubilee and the 30th Accession Day of President Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. One of the key historic sites in the emirate, the 100-year-old two-storey house spreads across about 3,600 square metres in the Shindagha area. A historic national edifice, the house represents the finest in traditional architecture and Arabic and Islamic art. The facade is dominated by what is perhaps the world’s earliest form of air-conditioning, four wind towers.
