While some people can’t wait for 2016 to end, we're looking back at our internet search history to remind you of all the wonderful events and people that were trending over the last 12 months.

"We always look forward to this part of the year where we share how the world searched in 2016. Google's 'Year in Search' is a look back at what caught the attention and curiosity of our users in the Middle East and North Africa over the past 12 months and as always the results are diverse," says Joyce Baz, Google's Head of Communications for the Middle East and North Africa.

While some of the top searches were expected, such as “Euro 2016” or the “Rio Olympics”, other things such as “Brexit” and “Trump” were perhaps not such welcome surprises.

Here are the top 10 most searched words on Google.com in the categories: People, events, movies, songs and destinations in the UAE.
