Samsung’s first allotment of S6 and S6 Edge models sold out

Dubai: The first allotment of Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are sold out in the first two days of the launch in the UAE.

“Our first allotment of 22,000 units have been completely sold out and we are waiting for the second lot,” Deepak Babani, CEO of Eros Group and the main distributor for Samsung mobile phones in the UAE, told Gulf News.

UAE was the first country to sell the devices on Thursday at midnight whereas it was available in other countries on Friday.

Babani expects the second allotment to arrive in the next two days. Inquiries for the S6 Edge was more than S6 with 65 per cent for the Edge and 35 per cent for the S6 model.

“If the same ratio continues in the UAE, we may face shortage for the S6 Edge model. If Samsung gives us extra supply, there will be a shortage in some other country,” he said.

He said there are a few S6 units available with some retailers.

Etisalat is the main telecom operator and distributor for the S6 Edge model in the UAE.

Nadeem Khanzadah, head of OmniChannel Retail at Jumbo Group, said that the initial allocation is completely sold out.

“We got a few additional units of S6 Edge on Saturday and that will be available for the next two to three days,” he said.

He said the demand is more for S6 Edge compared for S6.

Resolution

“We got the highest online pre-bookings compared to other retailers. We are the only retailer to charge full amount pre-bookings rather than part payment,” Khanzadah said.

The screen sizes — S6 and S6 Edge — remain at 5.1 inches but the display resolution increases to 577 pixels per inch, up from 432 ppi in Galaxy S5.

Although the rear cameras for the models remain at 16MP, cameras on both sides will have wider openings to let in more light. Both the devices have 5MP front-facing cameras.

The Galaxy S6 is available in four models. The Galaxy S6 (32GB) for Dh2,599, and the Galaxy S6 (64GB) for Dh2,899. The Galaxy S6 Duos (32GB) for Dh2,699, and the Galaxy S6 Duos (64GB) for Dh2,999. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is available in three models. The S6 Edge (32GB) for Dh3,099 while the S6 Edge (64GB) for Dh3,399 and the S6 Edge (128GB) for Dh3,799.
