With Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event just days away, excitement is building as leaks reveal camera upgrades for the Galaxy S25 Ultra and hint at a new ultra-slim variant joining the lineup.

The event, scheduled for January 22 at 10:00 PM UAE time, is generating significant buzz, with fans eager for details about the highly anticipated Galaxy S25 series.

From improved cameras on the Ultra model to the debut of the sleek Galaxy S25 Slim, here's what you need to know about Samsung’s upcoming flagship lineup.

Galaxy S25 Ultra camera enhancements

Despite minor hardware upgrades, the S25 Ultra is expected to deliver significant improvements in photo and video quality.

Leaks suggest:

  • Improved video: Likely due to the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and higher-resolution ultra-wide video, particularly in low-light conditions.

  • Enhanced macro mode: The rumoured 50MP ultra-wide camera (a four-fold increase from the S24 Ultra) is expected to significantly improve macro clarity.

  • AI audio eraser: Borrowing a feature from Google's Pixel 8, the S25 Ultra may include an AI-powered "Audio Eraser" to remove unwanted sounds from videos. This feature is expected to be part of One UI 7 and may not be exclusive to the S25 series.

  • Log video support: Enabling professional-grade color grading and editing, log video recording may be available, eliminating the need for third-party apps.

  • Seamless camera switching: While the S24 already offered some level of seamless camera switching during video recording, the S25 Ultra is expected to further refine this feature using the Snapdragon 8 Elite's improved image signal processor.

Galaxy S25 Slim camera setup

Leaked renders reveal a remarkably thin design (6.4mm without the camera module, 8.3mm with). Its expected camera setup includes a 200MP primary camera, a 50MP ultra-wide, and a 50MP telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom, positioning it as a competitor in the flagship market. However, the slim profile might raise concerns about battery life and heat management.

The S25 Slim is expected to feature a triple-camera setup, including:

  • 200MP primary camera

  • 50MP ultra-wide camera

  • 50MP telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom

S Pen slot and One UI 7

Ahead of the event, a leaked promo image showcases the Galaxy S25 series, including the S25 Ultra, but no sign of the Galaxy S25 Slim. The image highlights the presence of an S Pen slot in one of the devices, strongly indicating that it is the S25 Ultra, as the Slim variant is not expected to feature this.

Design and thickness

The S25 Slim is rumoured to be Samsung’s thinnest device in the S25 series, measuring just 6.4mm thick—a stark contrast to the S24+, which is 7.7mm thick. This sleek design will appeal to users who prefer a compact phone without sacrificing performance, although the slim profile could lead to battery and heat management challenges.

Display and battery

The S25 Slim is expected to sport a 6.7 to 6.8-inch display, putting it in the same range as the S25+. However, its slim design may result in a smaller battery capacity of just 3,000mAh to 4,000mAh—a noticeable shortfall compared to mid-range phones like the Poco X7 Pro, which boasts a 6,550mAh battery. This could put the S25 Slim at a disadvantage when it comes to battery life, as Samsung and Apple have yet to adopt the new silicon carbon battery technology used by some competitors.

Performance

Powering the S25 Slim is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM and running Android 15 with One UI 7. Benchmark results from a prototype show a single-core score of 3,005 and multi-core score of 6,945, which may be lower than expected due to the device’s prototype status and its slim design potentially affecting heat dissipation.

Launch and pre-orders in UAE

The Galaxy Unpacked event is scheduled for January 22 at 10 PM UAE time.

  • Registration: Interested users can register on the Samsung Galaxy Gulf website for potential early access and a Dh200 gift card upon upgrading.

  • Pre-orders: Expected to open on January 24 and close on February 4, with typical pre-order benefits like storage upgrades, Samsung Care+, and trade-in deals.

  • Shipping: S25 Ultra pre-orders are expected to ship starting February 7. The S25 Slim is expected later in 2025.
