Nokia adds e-mail support application to platform
Dubai: Nokia, the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer, has added Windows Live Hotmail e-mail support to its own messaging platform. The application enables access to up to ten personal e-mail accounts on a Nokia device and through one single icon.
The first device to come preloaded with Nokia Messaging will be the Nokia E75, which will be available in the UAE this week and costs Dh2,300.
"Twenty devices support Nokia Messaging today, including Nokia E71 and Nokia N79. People can check which devices support Nokia Messaging by downloading the latest version which will enable them to mobilise their Hotmail account onto their Nokia devices," said Trude Gajland, Head of Eseries Marketing, Nokia Middle East and Africa.
She said Nokia Messaging now supports the world's most popular e-mail accounts - Windows Live Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, Gmail and AOL Mail as well as thousands of ISPs from around the world.
Nokia Messaging is built on push technology, which ensures that e-mails are pushed directly to the mobile phone when they arrive at the e-mail server. While Hotmail can be accessed on any device, and even on Nokia devices without Nokia Messaging, the service makes accessing the mailbox a much better user experience.
Gajland said currently, Nokia Messaging is in trial mode (not unlike a beta). Anyone in the world with a supported device can download and set-up the service for free, with the only charges incurred relating to data transfer (such as sending, receiving, opening emails and downloading attachments).
