There is no doubt that the tablet is here to stay. Many publications are already having good results as people are using tablets as a platform for information delivery. Last week research released by Nielson announced that 44 per cent of tablet users access news regularly on tablets. Apple has already sold more than three million iPads worldwide. Now the Galaxy Tab from Samsung has entered the competition. All theses points show that tablets are on the right path but the question remains — is there anything more that can be added to convince more consumers to adopt them? Or in case of iPhone's owners, to buy a tablet?
We asked some journalists, designers and of course, consumers what would be the ideal tablet on the market that would increase the temptation to buy one. The answers are: use as a DVD player, mobile phone, video camera, longer battery life, and a solar-powered battery in case of emergencies. Some even suggested: why not a tablet that never stops? Or, when you are not using it, the device could become a dynamic photo portrait on your desk.
Besides the content you can download or buy online, some would like to see alternative formats available for books, films and magazines available on small DVDs and memory stickers that can be carried easily and played in the new tablet. The advantage of this would be less dependence on an online connection.
The success of the tablets will not only depend on the performance itself, but also on the viability of the wireless connection. Also, it is important that the wireless connection in public places should be free and readily available, which would simplify the user's life. These are the desirable tablets for the future. Are we asking too much? Hopefully Steve Jobs will read these suggestions and take heed!
