Just Dance 4: Have you got moves like Jagger?

More of a party game than a dancefighter, but it beats jogging

Just Dance 4 is one of a new crop of dance games relying on movement sensors such as the XBOX Kinect or PS Move.

But the seneitivity of such devices isn’t up to competition standards, meaning they’re more about having a laugh with mates than about competitive dancefighting.

Just Dance 4 aids the laughter front with a high-speed video playback guaranteed to make you look daft.

The tracklist, while it naturally concentrates on pop hits of the last couple of years, has a few golden oldies as well, including the Blues Brothers and Rick Astley (yes, Never Gonna Give You Up – now you can RickRoll yourself). There’s even a couple of smoochers in there.

Depending on the tune, you can dance solo, with a partner or – for a couple of tunes – with up to four people at once.

With four dancers, it’s not only easy to confuse the Kinect, but hard to see the on-screen figures showing you what to do, especially if your character is wearing a poodle skirt (yes, it happened to me).

My main issue with dance games is that I don’t move like Jagger so much as I do like a geriatric with a Zimmer frame (though I lack the dignity).

In this, the Kinect proved a great leveller – at one stage if even gave me a Good, then an Excellent rating for Everybody Needs Somebody, and all I’d done was stop to take a gulp from my morning cup of tea.

But it is fun, and it gets you moving, so you can work it in as part of an exercise programme: dancing beats jogging in my book. Anything beats jogging in my book.
