Celebrated on May 5 every year, Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over the French forces at the Battle of Puebla. Celebrations on this day include military parades, a recreation of the famous battle and decorations with balloons, streamers and flowers.

Embracing Mexican culture and heritage, the UAE joins in the festivities with several events planned:

Lunching at Luchador

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Luchador, Aloft Palm Jumeirah, on May 5 from 12.30pm to 5.30pm under a Mexican-themed roof. Enjoy fast-paced tunes from the live band and DJ, while feasting on traditional fare, including empanadas, ceviche, tacos de lengua (braised beef tongue) and tacos trompo (marinated beef).

Prices vary from Dh275 per person to Dh555 per couple.

Go supernatural at Zero Gravity

Zero Gravity, Dubai Marina, is celebrating Cinco de Mayo with a Mexican-themed ‘supernatural’ brunch that will take place from noon until 5pm. This fiesta will also have all-day pool and beach access from 8am. The party continues post the event with 2-for-1 from 5pm until 8pm.

Prices for this event range from Dh249 for women and Dh299 for men.

Loteria at Loca

Feast at Mexican hotspot Loca with an authentic brunch on May 5 at their outlets in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The event kicks off at noon and goes on until 5pm. Treat your taste buds to dishes such as slow-roasted ribs, kingfish fajitas and delicious desserts. Kick back with tunes from the DJ and choose from a variety of beverages. Something new to look forward to this year at Loca is Loteria — a traditional Mexican game similar to bingo.

Loteria will be played at both outlets, providing opportunities for guests to win special prizes.

Prices start from Dh285.

Peyote, DIFC

Latin American spirit will fill Peyote during its brunch served between 12.30pm to 4pm. They boast immersive decor and live entertainment, which adds to the ambience. Brunch will be followed by special offers on drinks from 4pm to 6pm at the lounge. Peyote offers a chance to socialise with sharing plates such as huevos cazuela, tosta de avocado and chicken pibil taco and desserts such as surprise pimata and churros.

Prices start at Dh275 per person, which includes food and soft beverages or Dh395 per person including food and house drinks.

Taqado

Taqado Mexican Kitchen is celebrating the day by offering Dh15 burritos across its 15 outlets. Take a picture of the Mexican flag displayed in the store and post it on Instagram or as an Instagram story and tag Taqado.

Vida, Downtown

Celebrate the annual festival at Vida Downtown from 1pm to 5pm as you treat yourself with enchiladas, tacos, sombreros, Latin-themed beverages and all things Mexican with family and friends at the Urban Picnic. Keep a look out for Pablo, the pinata that is beaten until it explodes.

Prices start from Dh310 per person including soft beverages.
