Qatar to host 2026 GCC Games, Kuwait gets nod for 2028 Youth Games

Dubai: The Olympic Committees of GCC countries have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting women’s participation in sport, aligning with the region’s principles of inclusivity and equality.
Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee, led the UAE delegation to Kuwait for the recent meeting, where several key decisions were made at 37th meeting of GCC National Olympic Committee Presidents.
The committee approved Qatar as the host nation for the fourth GCC Sports Games in 2026, calling for comprehensive technical and logistical support from Gulf Olympic Committees to ensure a successful event. The need to enhance female participation across all competitions was again emphasised.
The UAE’s proposal to host the inaugural Sports Law and Management Conference in 2026 was also approved. The conference will focus on themes proactively developed by the UAE’s National Olympic Committee, aiming to strengthen legal and administrative frameworks in regional sport.
Kuwait’s request to host the second GCC Youth Games in 2028 was granted, with the committee stressing the importance of strict adherence to age-related technical regulations to ensure fairness and competitive balance.
The meeting also highlighted the need to incorporate educational and cultural programmes into the Games where possible, to promote sportsmanship and Olympic values among young athletes. Support for female participation was reaffirmed, in line with the GCC’s wider goal of empowering young Gulf women in sport.
The Planning, Coordination and Follow-up Committee was authorised to continue developing the schedule for GCC multi-sport events from 2029 to 2032, with a view to aligning regional plans with international sporting calendars.
