New York: Bob and Mike Bryan lost in the first round of the US Open men’s doubles on Wednesday as the record-breaking US brothers went through a season without a Grand Slam for the first time since 2004.

The top seeds and five-time champions in New York were beaten by compatriots Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey 7-6 (7/4), 5-7, 6-3.

The 37-year-old twins, who were the defending champions in New York, have won 16 Grand Slam men’s doubles titles.
