Dubai: Delhi Private School (DPS), Sharjah, have recorded a historic victory by emerging as the overall champions in an international interschool swimming tournament.
Participating in the CBSE National Swimming Championship at Rohtak district in Haryana, the DPS girls team beat a strong challenge from participants from different Indian states, Singapore and Gulf countries. Their under-14 team lifted the team championship title as well.
"It is a great honour for us and the hard work of the girls has been rewarded," T. Ali, the head of sports department at DPS, Sharjah, told Gulf News.
Eehita Chhabra, a Grade VII student, bagged two golds in 100m breaststroke, erasing the meet record, and the 50m backstroke.
Arushee Wahi, also of Grade VII, won the gold in 50m backstroke, silver in 100m backstroke and bronze in butterfly.
The relay team also sparkled in the free style relay events. The team comprising Chhabra, Wahi, Sharadha Keda, Kaveri Agarwal and Anushka Palliwal won the gold with a new meet record and also picked the silver in 4x100m free style relay.
"We provided coaching to the school's team every morning at our swimming pool in the school's premises. The girls attended these sessions with great enthusiasm before the school hours and that is why they did so well," Ali said.
