Seven teams to face fierce competition in prestigious 12-goal tournament

Dubai: Fans can witness the thunder of galloping hooves, the clash of mallets and the thrill of high-stakes competition as the Dubai’s Emaar Polo Cup is back. The event promises two weeks of intense action as top teams go head-to-head for one of the region’s most coveted titles.
Defending champions Bin Drai are ready to put their skills to test once again in the 12-goal handicap tournament, set to take place from February 10-23 at the Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club. But with six formidable challengers in the mix, retaining the crown won’t come easy.
“It’s really a tough tournament — anything can happen on the day,” Kian Hall, a member of the victorious Bin Drai team, told Gulf News. “It’s getting a lot more competitive and getting a lot harder with more teams competing in the tournament. We will try our best to defend the title.”
Bin Drai clinched victory in a pulsating final against Bangash last year and will look to replicate their success.
The Emaar Polo Cup follows the UAE Polo Federation Cup, which saw a record nine teams competing for the first time in the tournament’s history — a clear testament to the sport’s growing popularity in the UAE. “This tournament is important for the growth of polo. Every year, a new partner comes in,” said Santiago Torreguitar, a member of the UAE Polo Federation tournament committee. “There are a few possible prospects for high-goal teams, and a lot of kids are starting to play as well.”
He added, “We have three high 20-goal level tournaments and three medium-goal tournaments. They are two fantastic levels, and we have lots of teams competing in each.”
Spectators can enjoy a range of culinary delights throughout the event, with special offerings at the Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club. The culinary highlight will undoubtedly be the Ultimate Polo Brunch during the finals from 2pm to 5pm, featuring an exquisite selection of dishes from around the world and handcrafted beverages. Brunch offerings include the Bubbly Package for Dh475 per adult, the House Package for Dh375 per adult, and a Soft Package for Dh275 per adult, with a special Kids Polo Brunch priced at Dh140. For those preferring a more relaxed experience, the Picnic Basket offers gourmet sandwiches and freshly squeezed juices, served in a picturesque setting by the pool lawn overlooking the polo fields, priced at Dh375 for two.
The medium-goal tournament will feature some of the region’s most esteemed polo teams, including those represented by high-profile figures. This year’s confirmed teams include: Abu Dhabi Polo Team, El Basha Polo Team, AM Polo Team, Bin Drai Polo Team, Noon Polo Team, Equiti Polo Team and Lamar Polo Team.
“The Emaar Polo Cup is not only a testament to skill and sportsmanship but also reflects the enduring legacy of polo in our region,” said Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Executive Director of Emaar Properties. “By enhancing this prestigious tournament with significant prize money and a vibrant array of events, Emaar continues to promote sporting excellence and provide unparalleled experiences for both players and spectators.”
The champions will take home Dh80,000, while the runners-up will receive Dh40,000.
Nayef Bou Hamdan, General Manager of Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club, expressed enthusiasm about hosting the event: “We are delighted to welcome back the Emaar Polo Cup to our grounds. It provides an exceptional platform for local and regional teams to display their prowess. We eagerly anticipate the spirited competition and are proud to support the growth of polo with our partners and the broader polo community.”
With elite teams, high stakes, and an ever-growing audience, the Emaar Polo Cup is more than just a tournament — it’s a celebration of skill, passion, and the enduring spirit of the sport. As the action unfolds over the coming weeks, fans can expect thrilling encounters, nail-biting finishes, and a true showcase of polo excellence in the heart of Dubai.
