Dubai: The UAE will crown the country’s new “King of Drift” at an event at Al Ain Airport car park on Friday night.

The Red Bull competition is in its fourth year in the UAE and is the first in a series that will also take in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Jordan, Egypt, Bahrain and Lebanon.

Preliminary rounds were held at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit last Friday and at Umm Al Quwain Motorplex on Saturday, meaning the country’s most skilled drifters will be in action on Friday. Two-time and defending champion Ahmad Al Ameri, who represented the UAE in the final competitions in 2011 and 2012, will again be in action.

“We are very thrilled to host the first stop for Red Bull Car Park Drift 2013 in the UAE,” said Alberto Chahoud, Regional Communications Manager at Red Bull Middle East & Africa. “Through the collaboration with great partners like Chevrolet, we are able to come back bigger and stronger in support of the local talents throughout the UAE.”

Abdo Feghali, rally champion and Red Bull athlete, will support the drifters as the performances are evaluated by a panel of judges including CEO of Prodrift Academy Graham MacNamara and Senior Instructor at the Yas Marina Circuit Sam Zian.

The evaluation will assess the drift competence presented by the competitors in their modified cars, through the use of handbrakes and other skills to take on turns in the most dazzling and accurate ways. In addition, judges will consider the engine’s sounds and car appearance, as well as the smoke produced by the tyres.
