Ian Overton (5) and Stuart Quinn (1), representing Ro3, scored an impressive 47 Stableford points to win the recent UAE Final of the 2022 World Corporate Golf Challenge (WCGC), supported by the Emirates Golf Federation, held recently at Arabian Ranches Golf Club, Dubai.
“We are both very excited,” Stuart Quinn told Gulf News following their victory. “We are both members of The Els Club, Dubai and just regular, mostly self-taught golfers playing in competitions as well as local golf societies. Occasionally I have the odd lesson with Pro Jamie McConnell at the Claude Harmon Performance Academy at The Els Club, just to keep me on the straight and narrow. I have been in Dubai for over 20 years. I am originally from Bath in England and Ian is from Cardiff in Wales. This is the best golf we have ever played, we are regular partners, so it was a great day and even better to win the top prize. We are looking forward to playing in the World Final of the World Corporate Golf Challenge in Tenerife, Spain, to be held in a couple of weeks.”
He added, “Ian and I used to represent the UAE at rugby and have played rugby all over the Asia region against the likes of Japan, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan and Hong Kong. To be winners of this WCGC UAE Final and qualify for the World Final will hopefully be just as much fun, and less demanding on our bodies. We thank the organisers at White Eagle Sport and Arabian Ranches Golf Club for hosting such a great day.”
'In for a treat'
Marta Biswas, owner of event organisers White Eagle Sport, who have the rights to the WCGC for the UAE, commented at the tournament presentation, “Ian and Stuart are in for a treat in Tenerife in the 36 hole WCGC World Final which takes place 19th – 20th October, over the Costa Adeje golf course. We wish them well and look forward to following their performances. It was a dramatic finish at Arabian Ranches with the winners just one point ahead of Team Microsoft / Map Completion Tech FZE, represented by Wael Soliman (13) and Mustafa Shahin (16), after Golf Genius scoring calculated all the final results and laptop technology delivered the final official tournament results. At White Eagle Sport, the WCGC is one of our key projects moving forward. We have plans to expand the WCGC next season to involve all UAE golf clubs in Club Qualifying Rounds as well as invite corporate partners to follow our Vision for the WCGC to be a flagship, ‘Must Play’ event on the UAE golfing calendar.”
