The UAE Boys 18 & under team got their hands on the Gold Medal at the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Golf Championships after cruising to a 54 shot victory at Doha Golf Club.

Rayan Ahmed led the way for the UAE, with the youngster also securing the individual Gold Medal in the category, carding rounds of 75-76-72 for a Championship total of 223.

Teammate Mohamad Skaik was four strokes behind in second, while Rashid Al Jassmy placed fourth in the individual category. The Sultanate of Oman won the Silver Medal and the Kingdom of Bahrain secured the Bronze Medal in Qatar.

In the Men’s Championship, which was played over four rounds with the top three scores from the team contributing, the UAE team of Sam Mullane, Thomas Nesbitt, Ahmad Skaik and Jonathan Selvaraj won the Silver Medal.

The team had to battle against windy conditions in the first two rounds before finding themselves in fourth position ahead of the final round, but the quartet bounced back superbly, with Mullane (74), Selvaraj (77) and Nestbitt (79) playing a pivotal part on Sunday to push the UAE up to second, one stroked ahead of Qatar.

“I am proud of the way our teams competed this weekend”, said National Team Coach, Faycal Serghini.

“The conditions were tough but our players showed a lot of consistency and poise. We will use this to continue to build.”

Saudi Arabia were the outright winners of the Men’s Championship, with Khlaid Attieh winning the individual Gold Medal after carding rounds of 78-72-71-76.
