The weather was awful this morning, I got to the golf course and it was absolutely hammering it down. It was still pretty windy and with the rain coming in sideways it was pretty hard to do a full warm-up routine while trying to stay dry at the same time. But the warm-up wasn't too bad in the end and I was feeling pretty good.

I got off to a slow enough start on the front nine, nothing really to write home about. I had four par’s in a row and then a bogey on five which wasn’t ideal. I managed to make the shot back though on the par five 8th hole at least.

Then at the turn I was hit with a hammer blow. On the 10th hole I had a triple bogey and it was just a bad decision off the tee box. I was feeling alright though prior to the tee shot, so I thought I would be slightly more aggressive and it didn’t pay off. A very silly mistake to make and a hard lesson learned there so I won’t be making the same mistake there tomorrow!

Then the stretch from 11 to 14 and really even 15 you are looking at the best birdie chances on the golf course. Two pretty short par 4’s and two pretty short par 5’s so you are looking at those holes to make three or four birdies in that little stretch of holes.

Couldn’t capitalise

So just tried to stay with it and I came through 11 and 12 with birdies. But then I got a little unlucky on 13 with the lie I had just next to the green. The same on 14 as I had a bad lie with a mud ball so I couldn’t control it too much out of there which was a shame and I couldn’t capitalise there.

Then the rest of the back nine I just had mental mistakes rather than swing mistakes to end up signing for a two over par 74.

To be honest all day I didn’t really make anything. The stats showed that I lost quite a few shots on the greens from inside 15 feet and I didn’t really sniff any good birdie chances. The birdies I had were on the par 4’s and the par 5’s and I was close to the green on those so I could chip it on it was alright. But I felt like I hit good wedges today that I couldn’t capitalise on which is a shame, so tomorrow I'll try to do the same thing and make a few more putts.

You’ve got do, what you’ve got to do

I went to the range and hit a couple of balls after the round just to keep some good feels going because I just want to stay patient and get a few putts to drop tomorrow. I guess it will help if I can hit it a little bit closer but you know, you’ve got do, what you’ve got to do!

Just give it a good shot tomorrow, I can still easily make the cut. I know I can shoot six or seven under, I’ve done it hundreds of times in tournaments so let’s go do it again.
