Twenty-eight ladies participated in the recent ladies’ tournament over the Fire course at Jumeirah Golf Estates, with Earth undergoing important summer aeration maintenance work.

The ladies were playing in pairs with an 85% course handicap allowance. The format was ’The Good, The Bad and The Ugly’:

· The Good – Holes 1-6, best net ball between the pair.

· The Bad – Holes 7–12, the worst or highest net score of the two-person team.

· The Ugly – Hole 13-18 both net scores are combined.

The par for the course 97. Since both player’s scores are used, the extra 25 strokes come from The Ugly holes (13-18).

Winning, with a score of net 100 (3 over par), were Deirdre Joan Kemp (14) and Claudia Kilcullen (25). The pair had moments of brilliance on both nines; the front saw Kilcullen secure three birdies on the bounce for The Good section. The second run of form was undoubtedly the defining factor. Holes 12-15 weren’t either Bad or Ugly, as the pair dovetailed exceptionally nicely, with both alternating net eagle-birdie-birdie-birdie.

The runners-up were Tanya Harrison (12) and Lady Vice-Captain Anna-Retha Rafferty (21). The pair also scored a net 100 (three over par) but lost on a count-back. The middle section of the round, The Bad, was really quite good as the partnership only went two over for the central six holes of their game.

Bettina Schrockenfuchs (16) and Teresa Sheepwash (26) took third place this week with a score of net 103 (6 over par). A clear example of their excellent teamwork was on the back nine, where on hole 11, they had a combined score of just a net four (Schrockenfuchs with a regular birdie and Sheepwash with a net birdie).

Whilst concluding the prize-giving presentation, Rory Stewart, Golf Services Executive, Commented, ’It was a pleasure hosting you all here today. I am blown away by the outstanding turnout, this being the most for a Wednesday ladies’ event all season. Congratulations to all prize winners.’
