Jamie Camero (The Els Club) shot a four under par 68 to win today’s (Sunday) 2023 Jumeirah Golf Estates Ladies’ Open over the Fire course at JGE.

The 18 hole event was the final qualifier of the 2022 - 2023 Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) Ladies’ Order of Merit.

Camero, 16 years old with her 17th birthday tomorrow (Monday), a student at GEMS Founders in Dubai, was out in level par 36 with a birdie on hole five and a bogey on the ninth. A further bogey on the 11th to stand one over for her round on the 12th tee was followed by four birdies in a row and a par – par – birdie finish saw her home in a back nine of 32 and an 18 hole score of 68.

On completing her round Camero commented, ‘In this event last year I came in second place, so I am pleased to go one better. I missed a short three-foot putt on hole 16 which would have meant five birdies in a row. This 68 is my best score on the Fire course at Jumeirah Golf Estates. My next event on my schedule is the 54 hole Faldo Junior Tour Middle East Championship held Tuesday 28th – Thursday 30th March at Al Ain Equestrian Shooting and Golf Club.’

She is coached by Joe Marshall at CH3 at The Els Club, her only golf coach since she took up the game, over seven years ago.

In second gross was Anca Mateiu (EGC) with a gross 71 winning on a back nine countback from Lara El-Chaib (ADGC). Anca won last week’s Ladies’ and Junior Club Championships at JGE.

The Net Division was won by home player Bettina Smith (JGE) with a 65 off her 24 handicap.
